It's 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and I am sitting here with tears running down my face. After four amazing days here in California filled with fun, friends and lots of travel, Katie just left for the airport to fly back home. I don't remember it being this hard last year - my only guess is that I love her more now than I did last year. Right this minute the doubts creep in about whether this whole thing was a big mistake. But I know that's only temporary. I leave for work in a few minutes and I will very quickly be so busy I won't have to time for doubts!!
So, there is so much to tell already and no time right now to go into much detail. We started working yesterday at the winery getting things ready for fruit this week. It looks like we are going to be rocking very soon with the recent heat spike here - it has accelerated everything. We got to check out the Buck Hill Vineyard last night where we are buying more fruit this year for our '08 Zinfandel. Everything there looks great. Our barrel tasting of the '07 Zin yesterday was a total blast. I am very pleased how that is coming along.
Well, I've got to run. I'll try to update tonight with more info and pics. Do me a favor - give Katie a big hug for me when you see her back home.

Spoke to the lady in question a while ago and will for sure give her a big hug as soon as possible! Sitting here with tears in my eyes and missing you but excited for your adventure and anxious to hear more soon.
It's got to make you a little homesick but keep us posted on your work, learn as much as you can, and, hey, have a great time out there! Steve K.
